Joe Epperson

President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors

Joe Epperson has served as our chief executive officer and as a member of our board of directors since September 2006, and has served as our chairman and president since December 2011. Before cofounding MaxPoint, Joe served as a finance director at eBay Inc. At eBay, Joe was deeply involved in both strategy and operations. Prior to eBay, Joe held finance and strategy positions at 3Com Corporation and Ford Motor Company.

Joe received a BSBA in finance and accounting from The Ohio State University and an MBA from Michigan State University. Like many successful entrepreneurs, he works because it is fun and because it is what he would rather be doing. When pressed, he does admit to an eclectic taste in music and an interest in math.

Kurt Carlson

Chief Technology Officer

Kurt Carlson has served as our chief technology officer since September 2006. Prior to MaxPoint, he was a senior engineer at NetQoS Inc., and prior to that, he held a variety of senior positions at Luminex Corporation, including director of software development. Kurt also held multiple software engineering positions at Wavefly Corporation and National Instruments Corporation.

Kurt received a BS in computer and information science from The Ohio State University. He is a keen cyclist—really keen. He rode for three seasons in Belgium and tried out for the Olympic team in ’92. Their loss is MaxPoint’s gain.

Gretchen Joyce

Chief Operating Officer

Gretchen Joyce has served as our chief operating officer since February 2009. Prior to joining MaxPoint, Gretchen was vice president of sales and distribution for Tesla Motors, Inc. Before Tesla, Gretchen was a director of international motors at eBay Inc., and before that, director of passenger vehicles at eBay. Previously, she was a director of business development at E-LOAN, Inc. and manager, retail strategies at Saturn Corporation. Gretchen received a BA in economics and management from Albion College. Outside the office, she tries to get in as much tennis as possible and plays classical piano (her initial career aspiration until she was swayed by the world of sales).

Brad Schomber

Chief Financial Officer

Brad Schomber has served as our chief financial officer since March 2014. Prior to joining MaxPoint, Brad served as chief accounting officer for ChannelAdvisor Corporation, where he helped guide the company through the IPO process and even named the stock symbol. Before ChannelAdvisor, Brad served in various roles, including senior audit manager at Grant Thornton LLP. Before Grant Thornton, Brad began his career as an audit manager for a major accounting firm. Brad received a BS in accounting from Wake Forest University.

When he’s not at the office, you can find Brad pursuing one of his hobbies—reading an eclectic mix of books or attending a hockey game and rooting for his favorite team, the Carolina Hurricanes. But perhaps his most important hobby is spending quality time with his family—whether it’s taking trips, going on family hikes, or coaching his kids’ soccer or baseball games.

Bill Alvey

General Counsel

Bill is general counsel at MaxPoint, where he focuses on privacy, intellectual property, and corporate governance matters. Bill’s more than 20 years of professional legal experience include time spent as general counsel at two public companies.

Bill holds a JD from the Washington University in St. Louis School of Law and a BA in history from the University of Virginia. He is admitted to practice in Missouri, Virginia, and Georgia.

A one-time Ironman finisher (he claims once was enough), Bill now spends time outside the office cheering on the Cavaliers, speaking French, and enjoying all North Carolina has to offer in the way of hiking, fishing, canoeing, and mountain biking.

Stuart Bogaty

SVP, Global Agency Business Development

Stuart Bogaty is senior vice president of global agency business development at MaxPoint, where he creates, fosters, and advances relationships with MaxPoint’s most critical business partners. Stuart has worked in the digital media space for more than 25 years, boasting a resume that includes Ogilvy & Mather, Mindshare, Saatchi, Universal McCann, and more. He’s also served on advisory boards for six different media companies, guiding today’s tech leaders into the future.

Stuart loves to create in his personal life as well. He’s a multi-instrumentalist who wrote, sang, and recorded the song played during the first dance at his wedding, and he’s also handy—as he’s designed and built bunk beds for his daughters.

Joy Clark

VP, Talent

Joy is vice president of talent at MaxPoint, where she works with executive leaders to understand themselves and the impact their leadership has on their organizations. Joy comes to us with over 20 years of experience in helping leading, high-growth companies effectively build and manage their human capital. A graduate of Rutgers University, her past experience includes successful tenures at QVC, Penske, Sony Ericsson, and Cree.

In case a professional career like Joy’s isn’t impressive enough, she’s fluent in Spanish, Reiki certified, a proud mom of three, and she sings in a band. And don’t be afraid to challenge Joy with the unknown—if something frightens her, that’s her signal to take it on.

Tom Dolan

SVP, Enterprise Sales

Tom Dolan is a seasoned veteran of the advertising industry, bringing more than a decade of senior management experience and knowledge from the biggest agencies in New York. Before coming to MaxPoint, Tom spent more than four years at Catalina, helping build a $50 million in-store advertising product, leading the strategic partnership group, and launching online and mobile solutions as a member of the digital leadership team.

Tom earned his BA from the University of Notre Dame with a dual major in anthropology and pre-med. Can you say career change? He adds to MaxPoint’s triathlon chops as an Ironman finisher, and even spent several years running his own company focused on this passion. Now, Tom’s lead hobby is changing diapers while caring for his young son and family in New York City. Get Tom talking about European soccer and you will be there for a while…

Michelle Engle

VP, Product Marketing and Product Management

Michelle joined MaxPoint in 2012 to lead the product management, product marketing, and user experience organizations. Michelle is a seasoned veteran of the startup and technology space with more than 20 years of experience building products at iContact, Channel Advisor, and JP Morgan. Michelle holds a BA in economics and international relations (with a minor in Japanese!) from Bucknell University and an MA in economics from New York University.

When Michelle isn’t spending time with her family and kids, she enjoys being a keen runner who loves to travel (especially for a race). Michelle spends her remaining free time volunteering with Super Cooper’s Little Red Wagon Foundation and serving on the board of the Girls on the Run of the Triangle.

Kip Gordon

VP, Operations Services

Kip brings a 25-year background in consumer retail and B2B products, spanning leadership roles across varied functions and industries. His experiences at divisions of PepsiCo and Anheuser-Busch include corporate strategy and development, finance, supply chain, and retail site/market planning. More recently, he’s enjoyed challenging general management roles with P&L responsibility for middle-market industrial and technology firms. Kip has a BA in economics from Washington and Lee and an MBA in finance from the University of Texas at Austin. He has a long-held passion for golf and is also used to dealing with the unexpected—he remained unflustered during a day in London that included a morning bomb scare and an afternoon emergency root canal.

Damon Hougland

VP, Engineering

Damon is vice president of engineering at MaxPoint, where he leads the engineering organization in creating real-time, deep data science algorithms that execute on a constantly evolving big data infrastructure. Prior to joining MaxPoint, Damon led software engineering organizations at PayPal, eBay, and Sabre as well as worked on the human genome project.

Damon is an accomplished co-author of three books on Java and mobile technologies and holds four patents. He studied biomedical engineering and ancient Greek language in college. When Damon’s not at work, he enjoys trying his hand at DIY home projects, reading comic books, and writing fantasy fiction. Despite his love of writing, you won’t find the word synergy—a word he counts among his least favorite—in his works.

Tonia Jones

VP, Customer Experience

Tonia Jones leads the customer experience team at MaxPoint, bringing years of leadership experience to the table. From spearheading the project management office for Citysearch to creating a self-service product for Business.com, Tonia’s career is an expression of entrepreneurial drive and creative energy.

When she’s not busy improving the customer experience, Tonia plays video games—particularly complex, strategic kinds like Myst and StarCraft. Also, Tonia brings some serious music cred to the leadership team—if she saved all of her concert ticket stubs, she'd have a collection numbering well into the triple digits. If you see her, make sure to ask her about how one concert almost landed her a Guinness World Record.

Chris Kozloski

EVP, Global Sales

Chris brings 15 years of online sales experience to MaxPoint. He oversees sales efforts, establishing relationships with top agencies, retailers, and brands. Chris has worked at a variety of start-ups and was an early employee at DoubleClick, where he held many roles. At Move, he dramatically increased sales from a standing start and most recently, Chris was at AOL where he sold to top-tier pharmaceutical companies. Chris has a BA in communication from the University of Pittsburgh. When he isn’t leveraging sales, Chris likes to surf and is a regular visitor to his local yoga studio.

Susan Lee

VP, Corporate Development

After four years as a member of the ad sales leadership team at Univision, where Susan successfully launched the first national television Hispanic Advanced Advertising Initiative, Susan has joined MaxPoint as the VP of corporate development. Prior to Univision, she developed and launched the mtvU co-branded credit card and loyalty program for Viacom/MTV Networks. Susan also held business development positions at The Walt Disney Company and AOL and was a financial analyst in the Financial Sponsors Group of Morgan Stanley investment bank. Susan has a BA in economics from New York University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She keeps busy outside work feeding her passion for health and fitness. In a brave move, Susan signed up for a triathlon before learning to swim. With only four months to hone her skills, she has put herself on a challenging path. However, if it doesn’t work out, all is not lost. She can still make use of her improved fitness, as there is always tennis with Gretchen.

Paul Maraviglia

General Manager, Europe

As MaxPoint’s general manager, Europe, Paul Maraviglia leads the charge in spreading hyperlocal digital advertising throughout the United Kingdom. In a more than 20-year career, Paul has distinguished himself by building successful sales and advertising teams across the print, broadcast, and digital media spaces. Most recently, Paul led his sales team at Undertone to double-digit revenue growth. And Paul’s career spans the globe—from serving Latin America and Central Europe at the Financial Times to helping open the doors for the Chinese edition of BusinessWeek.

When not signing major media deals, Paul can be found on the terraces watching his beloved Chelsea Football Club or walking his Staffordshire bull terrier along the Thames. A music fanatic, Paul is also an accomplished DJ. If you bump into Paul, make sure to ask where you can listen to his most recent mixes…

Sean Murphy

SVP, Analytics

With more than 20 years in software and web services, Sean is the SVP of analytics, charged with leading the performance of MaxPoint’s ad solutions as well as analytic and data product development. Before MaxPoint, Sean was at NeoNova, where he managed a cloud services offering for telco ISPs. Previously, at Vendavo, Sean was instrumental in growing the company from product conception to profitability, creating the market-leading pricing analytics solution. At Ask Jeeves, Sean introduced the first B2B web-based customer interaction solution suite, complemented by acquisitions worth $750M. At PeopleSoft, Sean managed a $500M product line and launched a new $40M+ start-up division. Sean has a BS and MS from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Sean is a world-class swimmer who has competed in all the major international games, including the Olympics. He was a triple NCAA individual and team champion and a five-time Masters World Record holder. Unsurprisingly, he has his own Wikipedia page. Many of Sean’s colleagues share his passion for swimming and sport—time to start Team MaxPoint?

Suzanne Skop

VP, MaxPoint Solutions

Suzanne is VP of MaxPoint solutions where she spends her time doing what she loves most—talking face to face with MaxPoint’s most key CPG accounts, building in-depth client integrations, forging long-term relationships, and understanding and solving the toughest market challenges. A long-time marketing tech veteran, Suzanne’s resume includes Bazaarvoice, BabyCenter, MySpace, and Microsoft. While at Microsoft, she grew her sector of the business from zero to $15MM in just three years. The reason for her success? A tenacious dedication to her clients.

Suzanne holds a BS in marketing from Le Moyne College and an MBA from Fordham University. In her off time, you’ll likely find Suzanne hitting the tennis courts, sweating in SoulCycle, or skiing the New England slopes with her family. But Suzanne does know how to kick back—she finds every excuse she can to hit the beach.

Lynn Vitello

VP, Marketing

Backed by 20 years of marketing experience, Lynn leads all marketing initiatives for MaxPoint. Previously, she played a key marketing role in the early growth of Motricity, followed by her role as VP of marketing at Accipiter, both technology start-ups. Lynn also held senior marketing leadership positions at aQuantive, Microsoft, and most recently, Quintiles, where she confirmed her passion for branding. Lynn holds a BA in business administration, with a concentration in marketing, from Westminster College. Lynn was a keen college tennis player until she was thwarted by a back injury. She spends any spare time at the beach, absorbing digital books, and has even threatened to take on Gretchen in a tennis match.

Matt Webb

VP, Finance

Matt Webb is vice president of finance at MaxPoint. Matt has a BS in business administration and accounting and an MS in accounting from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Matt comes to MaxPoint most recently from M*Modal, with previous tenures at Ernst & Young and SAS, where he was involved in everything from IPOs and acquisitions to business development and accounting. Matt is a lifelong business connoisseur—even in his salad days, he closely followed the trajectories of tech start-ups and large businesses alike.

When Matt isn’t reading up on the business landscape, he travels with his wife—their favorite destinations include cities of all sizes in western Europe (for the food, of course). When Matt’s stateside, he’s a keen wine appreciator with a loyalty to Napa Valley and Sonoma vintages. Matt originally hails from the Baltimore area, and is—naturally—a devoted Orioles fan.
